- in 2016, the Kauffman Foundation (a Kansas City based nonprofit that studies entrepreneurship in America) reported that the age group of people between 55-64 starting new ventures was higher than any other group that they have monitored in the last 20 years, including people aged 20-34.
The share of new entrepreneurs among this 55-64 age group increased to 25% of the total in 2016 compared to less than 15% in 1996.
- in 2014, the Kauffman Foundation reported that only 36.8% of companies were owned by women. According to the UN, 6 out of 10 women born during 2000-2005 are expected to live to 80. MIT Agelab Founder Joseph Coughlin predicts more women will create startups to support the needs of the aging population.
